Frequently asked questions
Is the Video Clip Maker really free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no watermark. The tool is also open source under the MIT license on GitHub, so anyone can inspect, use or improve the code.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video never leaves your device. All cutting and conversion happens inside your browser using FFmpeg.wasm, so your footage stays 100% private.
What output formats does it make?
Two options: vertical 9:16 MP4 (1080×1920) ready for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and TikTok, or the original aspect ratio MP4. Both use H.264 video and AAC audio for maximum compatibility.
Why does the video engine take time to load?
On first use the tool downloads the FFmpeg video engine (about 30 MB) from a CDN. After that it is cached by your browser and loads instantly on later visits.
Can I use it on my phone?
It works best on a desktop or laptop browser (Chrome or Edge recommended) because video encoding needs CPU power and memory. Large videos on phones may be slow or run out of memory.
